PEQ 15 TM PDF

Description Available to U. One of the key improvements in the ATPIAL is the addition of a co-aligned visible laser diode which increases functionality, allowing for use without night vision devices. The visible laser is slaved with the IR laser pointer, meaning a zero with one, insures the same zero with the other. This is extremely advantageous because you can positively zero or check your zero during the day using a simple boresight technique. The exceptional functionality of this unit gives you everything you could want in a single compact package. Its design seats the unit low on the rail, and wraps around the Picatinny for a snag-resistant, low profile.

The DBAL has a lot of things going for it. It is slightly shorter than the PEQ lengthwise. It has finger adjustable zeroing knobs with guards to prevent accidental loss of zero. The controls are on the back of the sight making them easier to manipulate with your firing thumb.

The rubber caps are easy to flip out of the way when the sight is going to be used and they seem to hold up decently. The laser works as advertised and the illuminator is easily up to the task of lighting up something at meters. I had no problem dialing the illuminator for wide field of view to narrow, it also came with inserts for different shapes such as a triangle or plus sign to help differentiate between different users hit spots. This could be very useful for some users, but my application does not require it.

Negatives for the sight are the battery location requires the sight to be removed for battery changes in my preferred position. The ARMs mount is another weakness, but I had no problems with it during my eval period. The boxy profile and button position on the left side could possibly be a hindrance to people who use their thumb to activate the laser, especially wrong handed users. The PEQ had some pluses that should be highlighted.

The battery is easily accessible from the back of the sight making battery changes significantly easier. The angled cut out and central position of the laser activation button was easier to access. The mounting set up with the single screw could be both a plus and a minus depending on your needs.

The illuminator was easily adjustable from wide to narrow. The cons for the PEQ are the sight adjustment screws instead of finger adjustable knobs. The sight is longer requiring more rail space. The laser setting switch is in an awkward position and it is not as easily manipulated due to its position. These are just a few observations that I have made over the last few months of trying both of these sights on various missions. I also really appreciate having the space that is freed up buy its decreased length.

Either sight will serve its purpose and I would be glad to be issued either one. I utilized the ability to rapidly switch from IR to Vis laser on several occasions as an escalation of force tool and it is something that has to be observed to be believed.

Haji does not like seeing a red dot dancing on his chest or his buddies face and often times this will cause them to drop to the ground and you can walk ground forces onto them. These observations were made from an aerial platform and as such are my observations of how these sights perform for my mission and may not be applicable for others in different circumstances or AOs.
