It should be orbiting from north - south - north like orbit, so on taking the revolution of earth into account, It will cover entire globe in few orbits.

GSLV: Geo-Stationary Satellite Launch Vehicle, is Primarily Designed by ISRO for launching Satellites in Geo-Stationary orbit which is to orbit over the Equator line through west-east-west by matching the orbiting period of revolution of earth per day that is, will complete one orbit around the earth in 24hrs approx.

This Satellite Will be mainly used for communication purposes and for weather forecast also. For Satellite based Communication like our DTH dish from our home, the Dish antenna should always be facing the respective satellite, when the Satellite is in movement, the antenna also to be moved continuously on tracking the Satellite. But that is a very complex method for a user.

So, We need to make the Satellite to be as static to the antenna. On the calculation based on orbital mechanics, to attain this, the Satellite should be 36,km above the ground, at the velocity speed of 3.
